We managed to record a clip of the duo bass jam I had with James Lomenzo (ex-bassist of White Lion, Megadeth) at his recent bass clinic in Singapore. He really is a sweet guy for a veteran metal bassist, and it was loads of fun jamming with him.

Heads up! Yamaha is organising a bass clinic by legendary bassist of Megadeth and White Lion James Lomenzo tonight and I’ll be opening the event with a bass solo re-arrangement of “When The Children Cry”.

We will also be having a little bass duo jam thereafter, that should be loads of fun!

Looping the Yamaha BBNE Bass on the Everyday Looper

The Everyday Looper has got to be one of the greatest iPhone apps ever developed for the solo musician.

The minute I downloaded it, and plugged in my cable to the iPhone, I was already composing a new song on the fly. In 1-2days, I had completed writing a new song on the Everyday Looper with just my bass laying down harmony, rhythm and melody. Absolutely intuitive and fun, playing the bass on this looper gave me just as much satisfaction as my RC-50.

Perhaps the only minus point to this is that I need to use one hand to trigger the recording on the iPhone whilst on the RC-50 I could tap my foot on the pedal trigger instead. But the fact that I could bring around my own looper in my pocket just rocks!

Below is a video I filmed of the song being performed with just the app and my bass. Still thinking of a name for this song..any suggestions?

The Yamaha Great Music Sale presents a free Clinic in Songwriting On Bass with iPhone Apps by Bassist and Composer Wendy Phua

The clinic will feature discussions about the process of songwriting, how modern technology like iPhone Apps can help a musician record song ideas and perform “live-looping”, and breaking out as a solo musician/composer.

Wendy is perhaps best known for tapping on the bass and composing instrumental solo bass songs, as heard on her EP “Between Here And Then”. She is currently recording a full length album displaying a unique sound that infuses a mixture of world, jazz and new age, and features guest artists.

Wendy also sessions in various bands and will be performing at the Wine & Jazz Festival at Robertson Walk 2 July 2010 with an all-female jazz band The Fountainhead.
